Prenatal & Postpartum

Benefits of Private Prenatal Yoga Sessions

Well, here I am 7 and 1/2 months pregnant and still feeling awesome! Practicing yoga is one of the best things you can do pre and post baby! I practiced and taught throughout my whole 9-month pregnancy (all three in fact!) and it was a wonderful experience. Prenatal yoga helps with relaxation (something your body desperately needs when it's working over-time), strengthening (needed to help you carry the extra weight!), flexibility (can help with the aches and pains of pregnancy), and of course, visualizing and breathing (you will need during labor and delivery!)

One-on-one private sessions provide you with a practice that can be tailored to your individual needs, with your own instructor, and built based on how you are feeling that particular day...because face it, when you're pregnant you will feel different from moment to moment!

Postpartum sessions will be held very similarly to prenatal, as your body is still healing from labor and delivery. Feel free to have your new bundle of joy join us for the session, or take some much needed time to yourself. Whatever works for you!

What You Can Expect:

  •  You will sign a waiver (you may need your doctor's 'okay' approving you to workout during your pregnancy) and fill out a questionnaire about your goals and previous yoga experience
  • You will need to be past your first trimester to start sessions with me
  • I will bring you a mat and any props, if needed
  • I will provide the playlist (you may want to use it or a version of it during your labor! My husband and I created a playlist that we listened to in the hospital with meaningful songs to us!)
  • We will modify the practice to fit your needs...and your growing belly
  • You should expect us to avoid twists, anything where you lay on your belly or back (can cause low blood pressure and poor circulation to mother and baby), specific core targeting poses (can cause diastasis recti if not done properly), and inversions
  • I will provide hands-on assists and adjustments and gentle massage, if you would like
  • We will work on breathing and visualizations to help with labor and delivery
  • If you'd like, we will talk about the different changes that are happening in your body and why you might feel a certain way (i.e. short of breath- your organs are shifting in your body to make more room for baby!)
  • We may do certain poses that bring you to your "edge" to prepare the use of your mind to push through tough situations, i.e. labor pains, changes to your birth plan (I can tell you about this one for me!), or anxieties or emotions that rise up during pregnancy
  • We will be careful not to overstretch you, as your body has an influx of Relaxin during your pregnancy, especially in the third trimester
